Carbon Emissions Statement
The Crewing Company takes our commitment to lowering our carbon emissions very seriously, and look to engage with suppliers who are mindful of their own carbon emissions and are working towards a more sustainable future. We regularly review how we operate as a business in regards to our environmental impact, and carefully consider the suppliers we choose to work with. We actively seek companies that are aware of their own environmental impact to support our own goals to become more sustainable as a business. We will encourage customers, suppliers and other stakeholders to do the same.
Introduction
The Company recognises that its operations have an effect on the environment in which it operates and that its responsibility to the environment goes beyond legal and regulatory requirements. In light of this, the company is committed in running its operation in an environmentally sustainable manner, and are committed to improving on our environmental impact, with regular reviews.
As we are a small business, we have not yet committed to a carbon emissions reduction target or signed the UN Paris agreement, however we are researching ways in which we can become carbon-neutral as a business with our wider group, Searchlight Group Ltd. We are also currently actively looking into B Corp certification in collaboration with our parent company Searchlight Group.
The H&S Officer, Eve Clarke, is responsible for ensuring that the environmental policy is implemented. However, all employees have a responsibility in their area to ensure that the aims and objectives of the policy are met.
Our Aims
We endeavour to:
- Comply with and exceed all relevant regulatory requirements.
- Continually improve and monitor environmental performance; and reduce environmental impacts.
- Incorporate environmental factors into business decisions.
- Increase employee awareness and training.
Environmental Management Programme and Objectives
We regularly review our environmental impact, and seek ways to minimise our carbon emissions. Whilst The Crewing Company does not produce any emissions or pollutants that come under the Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control Regulations issued by DEFRA, the company has identified that its most significant impacts on the environment include:
- Disposal & recycling of waste (including paper, consumables and electronic equipment).
- Energy & water usage.
- Transport.
- Purchase of consumables.
Methods for meeting the objectives within the Environmental Management:
- Maximising the reuse, recycling and sustainable disposal of waste.
- Using a Certified Waste Management Company to dispose of old files.
- The company moved to a fully paperless accounts system in 2019.
- Minimising unnecessary energy usage and waste.
- Minimising the impact of Company travel impact, by encouraging staff to use more sustainable and greener transport methods.
- Purchasing consumables in an environmentally sustainable and fair manner.
- Minimising unnecessary water usage and waste.
- Lights and electrical equipment will be switched off when not in use.
- Heating will be adjusted with energy consumption in mind.
- The energy consumption and efficiency of new products will be taken into account when purchasing
- In regards to Office supplies we will evaluate if the need can be met in another way and if renting/ sharing/ reutilising/ recycling is an option before purchasing equipment.
- We will favour more environmentally friendly and efficient products wherever possible.
We have in place a full environmental policy which details how these impacts will be monitored, managed and wherever possible, reduced.
Our Suppliers
We actively seek companies that are aware of their own environmental impact to support our own goals to become more
sustainable as a business. In regards to our suppliers we request to see their statements/ pledges/ agreements towards lowering their carbon emissions and Carbon Reduction Plans.
Please see some examples below:
- Our CRM system supplier has a Carbon Reduction Plan which shows their commitment to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050.
- Our Internet provider have an Environmental Policy Statement which states they recognise that they have a responsibility to the environment beyond legal and regulatory requirements, and are committed to reducing theirenvironmental impact.
- Our phone services are committed to creating meaningful and sustainable change in three key areas: environmental, social, and governance (ESG) and support sustainability worldwide.
Monitoring and improvement
We are committed to regularly reviewing, monitoring and improving upon our environmental impact and will do the following:
- We will comply with and aim to exceed all relevant regulatory requirements.
- We will continuously improve, monitor and reduce environmental performance and impacts.
- We will incorporate environmental factors into business decisions.
- We will increase employee awareness through training.
- We will review this policy and any related business issues annually.
Culture
We strive to create a culture where all employees understand they have a responsibility in their area to ensure that the company operates in the most sustainable way it can. We will do this by;
- We will involve staff in the implementation of this policy for greater commitment and improved performance.
- We will update this policy annually in consultation with staff and other stakeholders where required.
- We will provide staff with relevant environmental training.
- We will work with suppliers, contractors and subcontractors to improve their environmental performance.
- We will use local labour and materials where available to reduce CO2 and help the community.
