Growing our International Talent Base

Since returning from Abu Dhabi to London in the summer, our International Business Manager, Naoma has been busy developing our non-UK talent base to facilitate a variety of overseas projects as well as working on a host of permanent international roles.

Naoma is responsible for all international business which includes:

• Foreign companies coming to work in the UK
• UK companies going to work overseas
• And to a greater and greater extent, international companies struggling to source the talent they need in their own region.

“Our decision to establish a dedicated international desk, was driven by demand from our existing clients.”, says Naoma.

“The majority of work we have done in the Middle East has been supplying local talent to existing British clients, with short term projects in the region, who already trust their freelance staffing to us in the UK. We talk to our clients and find out where they plan to be shooting. If we already have suitable freelancers on the roster then we’ll make the introduction. If we don’t, then we use our network, source and vet fresh talent for the books. This approach is proving successful already, with repeat bookings in a variety of locations.”

Naoma and the team have recently filled roles in Berlin, Paris, Dussledorf, Boston, Philadelphia, Dubai, Qatar, Chicago, Tel Aviv, Geneva, Barcelona, Madrid & Brussels and are currently working on projects in locations including Budapest, New York and Nairobi!

Crewing Internationally is not, however, without its challenges. Different languages, cultures, time zones, working weeks, bank holidays, currencies, job descriptions and technical terminology all mean you have to have your wits about you…and a willingness to answer your mobile at funny times of the day!

“It’s certainly more challenging than facilitating UK work, and we’re constantly looking at xe.com but with Skype, WhatsApp and Email all on your smart phone, we don’t need to be in the office to make things happen!”
