Matt Tidmarsh – Editor

Creative, dedicated and with a cracking sense of humour, Matt Tidmarsh is one of our lovely Northern Editors. Based in Manchester, Matt has worked extensively for the BBC, Cactus Media and ITV among a number of other clients.

Launching a successful career from a chance break in Children’s, Matt’s career began as a digitiser at the BBC. With the hard work and determination that he has become known for, Matt soon impressed Producers and was made Editor of “Prank Patrol”, a highly complex hidden camera show that would teach him much about editing technique.

“It was a case of being thrown in at the deep end,” Matt tells us. “But I rose to the challenge and as a result have never been fazed by technically challenging projects or tight turnarounds, something that has been particularly beneficial as my client base extended.”

Since those early beginnings, Matt has become part of the furniture at the Beeb, working on both Online and Offline edits. Credits of note include Sam & Mark’s Big Friday Wind-Up, recent winner of best entertainment programme at the RTS North awards, and BAFTA nominated shows Hacker Time and Absolute Genius.

Matt’s work with BBC Sport has sent him all over the world editing onsite at the World Cup in Brazil, and in Moscow and Zurich at the World and European Athletics Championships, via Jodrell Bank in Cheshire for Stargazing Live. Over the past 8 years, Matt’s portfolio of work has grown to include Documentary, Entertainment and Music, which he explains was another influential factor on his career choices.

“My interest in editing certainly developed from my passion for music,” says Matt. “Growing up I regularly performed in bands and recorded a lot of music at home using my own equipment, and the similarities with video editing meant it came naturally to me. I have a very strong feel for music and relish editing performances or rhythmic montages.”

Cutting with Avid Media Composer, Avid Symphony, Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere, Matt has kept abreast of all Editing software and now looks forward to his next challenge.
