Stories… and storytelling. I was always fascinated by moving images and the words that went with them, even as a child. Originally, I thought I’d like to be in front of the camera, but as time went on I found I was much better lurking behind it!
Where do you feel most at home in the industry?
Within a team, where people can pull together, make the most of their individual talents, and come up with something amazing.
What are the some of the more unusual jobs you’ve taken on?
Where to start? Over a long career I’ve crawled through half-built tunnels and disused tube stations for transport films, staked out the red carpet with a keen eye and a sharp pair of elbows, wrangled zombies and Klingons for comic cons and film festivals, filmed undercover with the police, helped launch a cruise ship in the Caribbean and unexpectedly hosted a radio show.
What do you think are your greatest assets as a freelancer?
The depth and breadth of knowledge I’ve acquired down the years. The ability to hit the ground running and take each day as it comes. There’s always a solution. And don’t forget to breathe – most important.
How would your ideal year pan out?
Jobs lined up as far as the eye can see. And travel. I lived in Hong Kong and then Italy for a number of years and am ready to spread my wings again. I’m very happy to go where the work takes me.
